Pictorial boards with pictorial endpapers. An early retail/trade copy of one of the notorious Seuss six. Overall book is Good minus condition with stated flaws. The central part of the backstrip is present with the Dr. Backstrip paper covering the binding is absent in places not affecting the binding, hinges or integrity just an aesthetic flaw 2 inches at top and 3 inches at base. Exterior shows shelf-rubbing heaviest at corner tips where paper has rubbed and corners have rounded. A couple of pages have a small faint stain/fingerprint. Small, neatly written gift inscription on front endpaper verso. This copy has the original illustration of 2 Seuss characters with a black complexion from the fictional African island of Yerka which has since become objectionable judge for yourself. Copyright page has the Redbook reference that was removed in the bookclub editions. This is the tall 12x9 retail edition not the smaller book club edition. This would place this copy somewhere between 1958-1959. Happy Birthday to You! is NOT listed on panel nor are any other later released titles. Chronologically the next Seuss title to be published is Happy Birthday to You! released in 1959. Last Seuss title on rear panel is Yertle the Turtle published in 1958. Last and only date on copyright page is 1950.
